What Can I Use to Stuff My Dog's Enrichment Toys?

Pet owners are often looking for new dog enrichment ideas and how to keep their fur friends busy. If you’re like us, we have a stash of enrichment toys for our pups ready to go, so it’s usually more the question of what to stuff the dog toys with!

Here are three foods we stuff and spread on our favourite enrichment toys to keep our dogs busy.

1. Wet Dog Food

You’re right, it’s the easy option. But who doesn’t love to keep it simple, especially if you’re limited to time or not that creative! Stuff your dog toys with some wet dog food mixed with some kibble, vegetables, or dog treats. Switch it up and try out the different wet food flavours.

2. Frozen Bone Broth

Bone broth has a lot of benefits for dogs, so not only are you giving them a treat, you’re helping their digestion, joint health, gut health, and more.

Simply boil a vegetable of your choice in bone broth until soft. Let it cool, then put it in the blender until smooth. Stuff your enrichment toy and freeze, or fill an ice tray so you can add them to your enrichment toys later.

3. Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a must for most dog pantries and is a delicious Toppl and Kong stuffing or sticky mat treat. They love its texture and stickiness!

Buy some Peanut Butter that doesn’t contain xylitol (found in sweeteners and is very dangerous for dogs!). Pic’s Peanut Butter is a great option.

Mix in with mashed banana, rolled oats, blueberries, and even some crushed ice. Stuff the Kong Dog Toy or Toppl Dog Toy and freeze. Alternatively spread it across the lick mat and eat fresh or frozen.

Enrichment Toys for Dogs

These three boredom busters are some of the best enrichment dog toys that you can freeze and are great to have on hand. You'll pup will have endless fun!

Westpaw Zogoflex Toppl Dog Toy1. Westpaw Zogoflex Toppl Dog Toy

The Zogoflex is a customisable puzzle treat toy is designed to be filled with a dog's favorite raw food, kibble, or treats. It floats and is dishwasher safe.

The Toppl's soft, rounded inner 'teeth' contain a contoured cavity to hold treats in place until your dog nudges them out. To keep it challenging, simply connect the small and large Toppl’s together to make it even tougher.

Kong Extreme Classic Dog Toy2. Kong Extreme Dog Toy

KONG Extreme is the most durable version of our original KONG toy. It’s an ultra-durable, black rubber compound recommended for the most powerful chewers. Alternatively, opt for the Classic Kong Dog Toy. Kong toys are the ultimate boredom buster, great for your dog's dental health, and will occupy them for hours.

Pet.co.nz Pet Snacky Pad Lick Mat3. Pet.co.nz Pet Snacky Pad Lick Mat

The Pet Snacky Pad is an interactive feeder that keeps your pet entertained while slowing down their food consumption. Simply spread with your pet's favourite food and serve it to them fresh or frozen. A great activity to make them work for their reward.

Get creative with the dog toy stuffing combos, but make sure to steer clear of those common human foods dogs should avoid. Whether it’s savory or sweet, your dog will be pleased you have made the effort to keep them busy and, of course, the yummy reward that goes with it.
